Life cycle of worms
Did you know that worms have an interesting life cycle? Here are the main points for kids:
- Eggs: A worm’s life begins as an egg, usually laid in soil or compost.
- Hatching: After a few weeks, the eggs hatch into tiny worms called “hatchlings.”
- Growing: As hatchlings, worms are very small and have no segments. But as they eat and grow, they gain segments and become longer.
- Cocoons: Once a worm reaches maturity, it forms a protective cocoon called a “chrysalis.”
- Transformation: Inside the cocoon, amazing changes happen! The worm transforms into a different creature with wings: a beautiful butterfly or a moth!
- Emerging: Finally, the transformed worm emerges from the cocoon and begins its new life as a butterfly or a moth.
