Social Studies for Kindergarten

Kindergartners tend to be eager learners, but they have shorter attention spans and aren’t ready to dive into deeper topics. Typically¬†Kindergarten Social Studies begins with talking about expanding circles: your child’s interests, their family and home, neighborhood, city, state, country, continenty, and planet. This helps kids start to understnd their place in our world and understand how they can be in both a city and state at the same time. Next¬†social studies topics for kindergarten tend to include community helpers such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, dentists, postal workers, garbage collectors, etc. We like to add in learning about other countries around the world as it lends for a lot of play-based activities and understanding to respect other people from lots of cultures and backgrounds. Finally, if your¬†homeschool kindergarten you can add in resources that fit with your child’s interets. Interest led education is a great way to keep kids engaged and eager participants!

Kindergarten Community Helpers

Teaching kids about community helpers helps them understand all the different jobs in our community and how they are all important. It will inspire kids to think and drema about who they will become. It also allows them to understand in emergency situations who they can go to for help.
