Spring is so close, I can almost feel it. It is time for some colorful, cheery spring crafts for kids. This super cute and easy-to-make Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly is a fun butterfly craft for kids of all ages to make to welcome summer. This toilet roll butterfly is fun for toddler, preschool, pre-k, kindergaten, and first graders to make. They will have fun decorating their one-of-a-kind toilet paper roll butterfly craft
Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly
Using toilet paper rolls is the easiest way that I have found to make our crafts 3D and more life like. A Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly body is round and it can be hard to create that look without using something like a toilet paper roll. Plus using a TP roll in a craft is a great way to recycle and reuse. This butterfly craft for kids is something I like to teach in the spring anyway, because that is when Earth Day falls. It works out perfectly. Use this butterfly art and craft with toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, grade 1, and grade 2 students to celebrate springtime with a pretty spring craft for kindergartners.

- Pom Poms
- Markers
- Glue
- Scissors

We started this butterfly activities for preschoolers by covering the tp roll with sticky foam. You could use construction paper and glue, though. I think my daughter just really wanted to use foam in this project. Which works great!

Next, cut the butterfly wings from a piece of construction paper. We glued the foam covered TP roll onto the center of the wings. This is when I stepped back and let her do what she wanted. It was a self led project for her. She glued sparkly pom poms onto the wings, to add some sparkle. She also drew on a variety of shapes onto the wings.
Butterfly art and craft
I had a lightbulb moment as she was making her butterfly. She said that butterfly wings are full of shapes and no two match. How beautiful is that? I didn’t even realize how ironic this craft was to real butterflies. She was making this butterfly HER way. However SHE wanted it to look. No one else’s butterfly would look the same as hers, just as no two butterflies are the same. I was moved by the idea of this.
One thing that I learned early on is that when we are crafting, I let her take the wheel 90% of the time. It isn’t about the final result, it is about how she is strengthening her creativity. We have been crafting since she was old enough to hold a pencil and it shows. She creates things all on her own all the time. It turns out beautiful every time, too, because SHE made it!
