Prepare and cut up the number candy mats along with unifix cubes, counters or mini erasers. The kids will be choosing a card and finding the matching number on the mat and covering it with a counter or eraser. Be sure to have enough counters to cover the mat. The students will then choose a card, then begin to identify the matching number digit on the mat. You could also use a number line here. They can also use unifix cubes to assist them in counting order. Watch the students as they do this – have them count on from 10 to see the number that comes next etc. Use a number line to help the kids identify the matching . Some kids will start covering their teen numbers without reading a card, repeat the instructions for them. The group that covers all the candy on the mat wins the game!
