The desert is a barren area whose living conditions are very hostile for plant and animal life. The lack of vegetation and water for animals makes it hard for them to survive. To stay out of the heat, many of the animals that live in the desert are nocturnal and become very efficient at conserving water and energy.

This Desert Animal Printable Pack introduces children to some of the unique animals that are able to survive these harsh conditions.

This printable pack contains over 70 pages of fun activities focusing on animals that live in the desert. There are eight animals that are focused on in this printable pack: the camel, the scorpion, the tortoise, the mouse, the rattlesnake, the lizard, the gopher and the coyote.

In this Desert Animals Printable pack, there are many hands-on activities which will require a small amount of preparation. For these, I prefer to print them out on white cardstock or paper and then laminate for durability. These activities include 3-part cards, size sequencing cards, and shadow matching cards. Other hands-in activities which can be used with playdough or pom poms to mark the answers are the addition and subtraction cards and count and clip cards. Children can also work on their scissor skills with the What Comes Next?, Finish the Pattern, and Cutting along the lines activities. There are also many printable worksheets that will help children with their math and literacy skills. These include tracing letters, counting objects, simple addition and subtraction, finding the letters as well as coloring pages.
