This hands-on experience is a fantastic way for students to learn about these important animals and the need for conservation.
Animal coloring book pages
There are eighteen pages in this printable pack. The activities include:
- Blue whale -Blue whales are the largest animals in the world. They have slender bodies, long flippers and a large tail.These mammals live in the oceans around the world, migrating around depending on the season.
- Bluefin tuna -Bluefin whales are large and very fast fish that live in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.They have short pectoral fins, a pointed head and bright yellow fins near their tails.
- Camel – Camels live in deserts. To survive in these hot, dry places, they have a thick coat which keeps them safe from the hot sun but also warm when it gets cold. They have two sets of eyelashes to keep the sand out, they store energy in their humps, and large feet to help them walk easily on the sand.
- Chinchilla – Chinchillas have large, dark eyes, upright ears and cat-like whiskers. They eat grass and other plant matter, usually getting all the water they need from the plants. If needed, they drink the morning dew. They live in large colonies, that can get to over 100 chinchillas.
- Elephant – Elephants are the largest land animals. They use their trunks for a variety of different things including smelling, breathing, as a ‘hand’ and to drink water with. A herd of elephants is usually led by the oldest female.
- Gorilla – Gorillas are large, powerful apes that live in rainforests in Africa. Active during the day, they live in families of up to 20 animals. This family is led by a silverback male. Gorillas walk on all four limbs, supporting their weight on the knuckles on their hands.
- Honey Bee – Honey bees are super important, transferring pollen allowing plants to grow seeds and fruit. They live in hives which consist of the queen bee, drones and worker bees. These fabulous fliers produce honey to eat during the winter.
- Killer whale – Also known as orcas, killer whales are the largest members of the dolphin family. These mammals live in the ocean, coming to the surface to breathe air through a blowhole on top of their head. These whales are black on top and white underneath.
- Macaw – Macaws are large, colorful parrots that live in the rainforests of South America. They have curved beaks that are strong enough to crack open nuts and seeds.
- Manatee – Manatees are slow-moving mammals that live in rivers and shallow coastal waters. They use their flat, rounded tails to move forward. These creatures are herbivores, using their flippers to push plants towards their mouths.
- Markhor – A markhor is a type of wild goat. Its short, smooth summer coat grows into a longer and thicker coat for the winter months. They can be found in mountainous terrain with steep cliffs, open woodlands, scrublands and forests.
- Orangutan – Orangutans are red-haired apes that live in the tropical rainforests of southeast Asia. These mammals spend most of their time in trees, sleeping in leafy nests that are made high off the ground.
- Panda – Giant pandas are black and white bears that live in bamboo forests in central China. These mammals are omnivores are big eaters. They don’t hibernate like other bears, though they do head to a warmer area.
- Porpoise – A porpoise is a small marine mammal that looks a lot like a dolphin. They have a blunt snout, small teeth and live in small groups in oceans, coastal waters and some rivers. They mainly eat fish and squid, though they also enjoy shrimp and crabs.
- Rhino – The rhinoceros are known for their giant horns that grow from their snouts. During the day, these large creatures sleep in the shade or wallow in muddy water. Mostly solitary animals, these herbivores munch on plant matter at night, dawn and dusk.
- Sea Turtle – Sea turtles are reptiles that breathe air but spend most of their lives in the water. They migrate across oceans looking for food and sites to lay their eggs. They don’t have teeth, instead using their beak-like mouth to bite and chew their food.
- Tapir – Tapirs are mammals that live in swamps and forests that are near rivers. They come out at night to eat grass, leaves, fruit and water plants. They use their soft, flexible snout to find food. To escape their enemies, they run to the nearest water and hide in it.
- Zebra – Zebras are mammals that are known for their black and white stripes. No two zebras have the exact same stripes. Living in Africa, zebras mainly eat grass. Some species also eat shrubs and herbs.
