Papyrus Paper Craft
This simple papyrus paper craft allows kids to dive into a fun study about Egyptians for kids. I love using arts and crafts to make history come alive for kids. Young children from toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 learn so much better by doing. This simple egypt activity will create a lasting impression of one of the most famous ancience civilizations – the pyramid builders! Whether you are a parent, teacher, or homeschooler – you will love this fun egyptian project for kids. Plus all you need are a couple simple materials to try this children’s project on ancient egypt!
Ancient Egypt for Kids
All you need to try this fun Egypt Craft for kids are a few simple materials you probabaly already have on hand:
- yellow paper
- 1 cup flour
- 2 cups water
- medium bowl
- baking sheet
- foil
- markers or paint to make a picture or heiroglphics
Ancient Egyptian Craft
In tihis fun history for kids project you can make our own papyrus paper activity! In a medium bowl mix 1 cup flour and 2 cups of water.
Egyptian Civilization Art and Craft
We cut several sheets of unlined light yellow paper into squares.
Hieroglyphics craft
Dip the yellow squares into the flour mixture and lay them on an aluminum-lined pan horizontally. Repeat and slightly overlap the next one.
Egyptian Crafts
Then we repeated laying squares down overlapping the preious row and the one before them until we had a sheet of our parchment paper.
Papyrus Paper Activity
Lay aluminum foil over the top and roll with rolling pin; some of the flour and water mixture will seep out the side. Now put your pan in the sun to dry.
Children’s project on ancient egypt
When dry, pull it off the foil pan carefully and see the crisscross pattern – that is what papyrus made by ancient Egyptians looked like. You can trim the edges if you like.
History Craft
Now it’s time to decorate your papyrus scroll. You can add some hieroglyphics if you like. Hieroglphics are an ancient form of writing with over 1000 distinct characters. The ancient Egyptians believed that writing was invented by the god Thoth and called their hieroglyphic script “mdju netjer” (“words of the gods”). Hieroglyphs were invented by Egyptians around 3100 B.C.

Of ir you prefer you can use markers or paint to create an Egyptian picture on it. You can make the great pyramids, Sphynx, pharoah, King Tut’s burial mask, an elaborate sarcophagus, one of the Egyptian gods like Anubis, a black cat, scarab beetle, map of Ancient Egypt, and more!
