Dr Seuss Craft

Dr. Seuss’s Birthday & Read Across America is coming up on the calendar in March. Dr. Seuss is one of my favorite authors for children’s books. They NEVER seem to get old. Each time I read them, I find something else I love about them. One of my favorites is Put Me In The Zoo, so when I was thinking of crafts to do to go along with his birthday, I knew I had to make a leopard! This Puffy Paint Leopard was a straight winner! This dr seuss crafts for preschoolers, toddlers, kindergartners, and grade 1 students is simple enough to make with a range of ages; everyone will come up with their own unique craft for Dr Seuss day.

Start by painting the paper plate with the yellow watercolor paint. You’ll need this to dry. If you just paint a thin layer, it will dry pretty quickly.

Next, we cut out rounded ears from the yellow construction paper and glued them to the top of the paper plate.

Once the watercolor is dry, or mostly dry, we add the googly eyes, then draw on a nose and whiskers.

Now it’s time to make the puffy paint. I know there are quite a few different recipes out there, but this one is my favorite. It adds an element of sensory to the craft.

Start by putting equal parts of shaving cream and glue into a bowl. Stir softly.
Add food coloring color of choice.
Mix again.

Now you’re ready to paint and add the spots to the leopard.

For younger children, it might be a fun idea to draw the circles on the leopard so they know where to paint the polka dots, but this is not required.

Once all of the dots are painted on the leopard, set it aside and let it dry. It will dry all puffed up.

How fun is that?? Your kids are going to LOVE it!
