This free printable bingo game is a great way to encourage students to practice their 2D shapes! This game includes all basic two-dimensional shapes and is a really fun way to encourage your kids to practice shape recognition.

FREE Shape BINGO
Most children pick up the names of shapes quite quickly, but it can be hard to figure out the differences between those shapes that look similar. Think about shapes for a moment. Some have straight edges and some are curved. Some have a few sides and some have many. Some, like triangles, can appear in many forms
Put yourself in the shoes of a kindergarten child.
- A Pentagon, hexagon and Octagon look really similar, but have small differences.
- Squares and rectangles both have four sides
- Ovals and circles both have curves
It is actually a lot to figure out and remember, so our students need lots of practice to make all those connections.
With that in mind I have created a simple game to give your students a chance to practice matching and recognizing 2 D shapes. Children will have the chance to build their listening, matching, and analyzing skills as they play shape Bingo.
This set of Shape Bingo cards includes Bingo calling cards (one in color and one in black and white. and 4 Bingo Boards. We have included 12 basic shapes
- circle
- heart
- hexagon
- oval
- square
- star
- rectangle
- diamond
- triangle
- Octagon
- Pentagon
- trapezoid
MATERIALS REQUIRED
- Free Bingo card printable (see below)
- Cardstock
- A Printer
- Laminator (optional)
- Manipulatives to act as bingo chips- this can be anything small like buttons, small blocks or tiny erasers.
PREPARATION
- Print the BINGO calling cards (color or black & white) and game boards on card stock.
- Laminate for added durability
- Cut out the Bingo calling cards
- Gather manipulatives and place in a bowl or basket.
HOW TO PLAY SHAPE BINGO
- Give one shape bingo mat to each child in your small group.
- Distribute the bingo chips
- Pull out one of the cards and say the name of shape and describe it “We have a square.Squares have 4 equal sides.” Show the children how to search for the square on their bingo mat and cover with a bingo marker
- You may need to the show the children how to do this a number of times.
- Continue to pull out the shapes as the children cover their square. When a child has 3 counters in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) they call out “Bingo”.
If you wish you could change the game, so the children have to cover the four corners or play “Black Out” which means covering the whole board.
