Peru is located on the west coast of South America, along the Pacific Ocean. It contains lots of fascinating historical sites from the Incans and one of the seven wonders of the world – Machu Picchu! Llamas and Alpacas are as common in Peru as a horse is in North America; Llamas do better with the steep hillsides of the Andes Mountains. The beautiful Cantua is their national flower Some of their customary food might seem strange to you; cuyes is guinea pig meat (they consume 65 million a year) while others like potatoes or fusions of other cooking are world renown. If you love peanut butter, you’ll be interested to know that evidence shows the peanut plant was grown at the foothill of the Andes in Peru 7600 years ago. Also, tomato plants originated in this area of South America; tomatoes make up ketchup and pizza sauce just to name a few!
Whether you are a parent, teacher, or homeschoolers – these are a great introduction to Peru, their landmarks, and history. This is great addition to geography, social studies, or even a summer learning unit, or studying about countries on the news. Estoy trabajando con niños de segundo y primer grado, me gusta mucho la cartilla porque es divertida y muy visual. Enseño español y como parte de la cultura los acerco a los paÃses hispanos, y como no enseñarles el mÃo, Perú.
