Fall Count, Trace, & Clip Cards for Kindergarten

Young children need plenty of practice when they start learning how to count.  These count and clip cards are a great counting resource to have on hand for beginners. The art has a definite fall flavor, so they are perfect for this time of year.

There are two sets of cards.
  1. The first set contains basic count and clip cards. Students select a card, count the number of items, and then clip a clothespin on the correct number.
  2. The second set has trace, count and clip cards. They are basically the same as the first set, but they also give students a chance to trace the correct number before clipping. If you prefer you omit the clothespins and have the kids trace the correct number.

PREPARATION
  1. Print both sets of cards onto cardstock.
  2. Laminate the sheets and cut out the cards *
  3. Decorate the clothes pins with washi tape (optional)
  4. Make a small mark at the back of the card behind the correct number, so children can check their answers.

STORING THE CARDS
  • Place set 1 and 10 clothespins into a container. *Note: You don’t need to laminate this set, but they will last much longer if you do.
  • Place set 2, 10 clothespins, dry erase markers and a cloth into a container

DIRECTIONS:
Set 1: Children select a clip card and count the number of fall items on the card. They clip a clothespin on the number that matches the set.  Students repeat this until they have clipped all of the cards.

Set 2: Children will select a card and count the number of fall items on the card. They trace over the number that matches the set and then clip a clothespin on it.  Students repeat this until they have completed all of the cards.

If you are a home schooling family you can certainly use both sets with your preschoolers, but younger children will need more help from you. Show the cards and have a brief conversation about the pictures. Then count the items together and decide which number to trace/clip.
